We provide a complete, multidisciplinary approach to the surgical care of the morbidly obese patient. The practice was founded by Drs. Wright and Cárcamo, two board-certified San Antonio general surgeons who also treat a broad spectrum of surgical problems as well as the complications of morbid obesity.
The bariatric practice consists of surgeons specializing in the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (the LAP-BAND® System), as well as other health care specialists who provide medical, nutritional and psychological support.
The LAP-BAND® and Realize Band are silicone belts designed to be inserted by laparoscopic procedure, and are placed around the stomach resulting in the ability to control hunger. The LAP-BAND® allows for the adjustment of weight until the patient has reached his/her goal, without drastically restricting eating habits.
Nationally, more than half of the population has dieted at some point or another, but a lot of times long-term weight loss is difficult for the obese because of inability to exercise due to excess weight. LAP-BAND® surgery is a simple, minimally invasive weight loss procedure that will help reduce these weight related health problems and get the patient back on track to a healthier, happier lifestyle.
A key element of success is the patient support group, facilitated by LAP-BAND® System patients. The group meets to assist patients with issues related to their surgery as well as problems they face day to day.
